The innovative tools of tomorrow are being used by the Army of today through the collaboration of the Technology Implementation, Demonstration and Transfer programs.
"Technology Implementation" refers to the process of getting products to the field where they are needed most. There are basically six steps to this process.
Develop the Requirement: Work with installations to define their environmental technology requirement - technical, planning, schedule information.
Match Technologies to Requirements: Understanding commercial technologies and those under development in government and private labs, USAEC personnel match up the requirement and a group of technologies.
Test the Technologies for Army Use: Test candidate technologies on Army installations.
Plan and Fund the Purchase or Lease of the Technology: Plan for, and fund, the purchase or lease of the selected system and its placement on the installation.
Put the Technology on Site with Training: Place the system on the installation and train the operators.
Operation and Maintenance of System: Fund the operation and maintenance of the system; collect cost benefit data to verify business decisions made.
The Technology Transfer program provides potential technology solutions by managing the validation and transfer of new environmental technologies to installations. This is done by working with the environmental Research, Test, Development and Evaluation (RDT&E) program and through technology transfer workshops. Technology transfer workshops are held at different installations and assist installation experts to implement new technologies. Various environmental issues ranging from UXO detection technologies to sustainable range and environmental quality technologies are implemented through this program.
USAEC, and our DoD counterparts, are steadfastly improving the quality of life on Army installations and their surrounding communities and ensuring that good stewardship and the use of sound environmental practices are reflected in the methodologies and tools we implement. The development, exploitation and transfer of technology enable environmentally sustainable installations to support our Soldiers, their Families and surrounding communities.
