The October 2006 VSO/MSO Roundtable took place on 26 October, at the DoD Force Health Protection & Readiness (FHP&R) offices in Falls Church, VA. The roundtable, hosted by Dr. Michael Kilpatrick, Deputy Director, FHP&R Programs, featured speakers Dr. Kelley Brix, M.D., M.P.H., of the Office of the Deputy Secretary of Defense (FHP&R), and Ms. Brenda Faas, M.S.W., representing the Office of Coordinated Transition field office (Walter Reed Army and Bethesda Naval Medical Centers) for the Veterans Administration.

Dr. Kilpatrick opened the meeting at 10:00 a.m. by welcoming the attendees. He then introduced the first presentation by posing a question on how we take care of our people at the local level and then said that the first speaker would brief us on how Minnesota does that with its returning servicemembers.

The May meeting focused on two very important medical issues. The Program Director for Mental Health Policy, Colonel Bob Ireland, USAF, MC, CFS, addressed the group on suicide prevention in the Department of Defense (hyperlink to briefing). In addition, Colonel Tony Carter, USA, MC gave an overview of acute injury care.

Several topics were presented at the April meeting. Colonel Charles C. Engle, USA, of the Deployment Health Clinical Center, provided an update on the work done at the Center. Ms. Lois Kellett from the Department of Veterans Affairs, updated the group on VA/DoD information sharing. Finally, Mr. Aaron Gammache of the Deployment Health Support Directorate, gave the group an overview of the Joint Patient Tracking Application (JPTA).
