  • The Directorate of Environmental Integration (DEI) of the U.S. Army Engineer School (USAES), Fort Leonard Wood, MO, is the Army's proponent for integration of environmental considerations into the major domains of Doctrine, Organizations, Training, Materiel, Leadership and Education, Personnel, and Facilities (DOTMLPF). The DEI Web pages provide organizational information and descriptions and links to environmental training resources, particularly those tailored for soldiers and military units. In addition, DEI is responsible for the following doctrinal publications (NOTE: AKO login required and will take you direct to the documents — login with CAC will take you to the Reimer Digital Library main page): Most of the DEI's other training products can be obtained from the Reimer Digital Library using the "Library Search" function ("RDL" Channel). Select the "Commandant Approved Training" button, "Engineer" in the Schools list window, enter "environment" in the Keyword window, then choose "Submit."
  • The U.S. Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine operates the Hazardous and Medical Waste Program, and Audio-Visual Lending Library. The USACHPPM Environmental Noise Program provides a downloadable version of Noise Management Primer — Facilitating Community Involvement and Communicating with the Public — click on the first link for "Noise Primer." For CHPPM training availability see the links below under "Defense and Federal Environmental Training."

  • Army Environmental Training Symposium
The Army Environmental Training Symposium is offered in alternate years within the annual IMCOM Installation Management Institute (IMI). These events are intended to educate the installation management workforce with the tools, techniques and tips needed to successfully accomplish new installation management training initiatives. The environmental sessions focus on program updates, current issues and hot topics in a variety of media areas and across the Army's environmental realm of responsibility. The IMI for 2009 was held 15-18 June, 2009, without an environmental track. Visit the IMCOM
2009 IMI web page on AKO for details. Watch this space for information on the 2010 IMI, which we anticipate will include environmental track presentations.

Use the 2008 IMI web page (AKO access required) for access to the January 2008 presentations. Presentations from the May 2006 Symposium are posted on the USAEC Knowledge Centers in AKO (AKO account required). The Symposium was not offered in 2007.
  • Multi-Functional Training Conference (MFTC)
Like the IMI, the MFTC offers an environmental track every other year. Environmental track presentations from the 2008 Conference are posted in AKO in the MFTC Knowledge Center.
  • 2007 DoD Pest Management Workshop
The Armed Forces Pest Management Board sponsored this triennial event, held 12-16 February 2007 at Jacksonville Naval Air Station, FL. The conference theme was "Pest Management: Meeting Force Health Protection Challenges and Supporting the Global Security Mission." The Workshop Proceedings page provides further links to abstracts and presentations.
  • American Indian Cultural Communication Training Courses
The Office of the Deputy Under Secretary of Defense (Installations & Environment) sponsors American Indian Cultural Communication Seminars and Training Courses in many different parts of the country, most on or near military installations. Seminars may be as short as half-day; courses are usually 3 days. Evening cultural programs are often part of the required course instruction. Participants learn about the DoD American Indian-Alaska Native Policy, implementation guidelines, and the skills required for improved communication and consultation with tribal governments.

The next offering of the 3-day course is July 14-16, 2009 in Great Falls, MT (near Malmstrom AFB). For further information on this or future courses, or to Register, contact Ms. Tia Armstrong. Course information is normally posted on this DENIX link.
