ANNUAL COMPETITION HIGHLIGHTS THE
INFLUENCE OF OUTDOOR COMMUNICATORS

SHREVEPORT - Eighteen Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association (LOWA) members
were recognized for their contributions to outdoor-related communications
during LOWA's annual conference, which concluded here Aug. 18. The
honorees were selected from more than 100 nominations in the
organization's 2007 Excellence in Craft (EIC) competition.

"This competition recognizes the efforts of an important group", said Rex
Caffey, EIC chairman and director of the LSU Center for Natural Resource
Economics & Policy. "The outdoor media reaches hundreds of thousands of
citizens annually - and they are often the most influential group
available when it comes to educating the public on some of the more
complicated issues pertaining to natural resource management and policy."

As evidence of this assertion, Caffey points to several of the winning
entries in this year's EIC competition, which covered topics such as
fisheries management conflicts, public and private property rights, and
the status of coastal restoration efforts.

All EIC entries are evaluated through peer-review process involving
professional outdoor writers and communicators from across the country.
Below are the winners and sponsors in each category. For more detailed
