THE NEW DISA STAFFING PROCESS

At DISA, our greatest strength is our workforce. To better meet the challenges of attracting and retaining a world-class workforce, DISA is implementing an automated staffing and recruitment system, DISA CAREER TREK. DISA CAREER TREK is a reengineered staffing business process that takes advantage of new information system technology. The new technology is called Resumix. It eliminates the old system of manually processing your application and replaces the old forms—SF-171s and OF-612s—with resumes. DISA is implementing the DISA CAREER TREK for all GS-13, GS-14, and GS- 15 positions worldwide. The DISA CAREER TREK replaces the Career Management System (CMS). All DISA CAREER TREK positions will now be announced through job opportunity announcements (JOAs).

RESUMIX

Resumix is an automated employment referral system. It replaces the manual review of applications with state-of-the art technology that matches qualified applicants with vacancies. This system uses advanced optical character recognition software, imaging technologies, and a patented skill extraction system to “read” your resume.

THE PROCESS

Under Resumix hiring, managers and human resource (HR) specialists jointly identify the needed skills for the position. Once the HR specialist receives the request for recruitment, they match qualified applicants who have applied for the position and are in the database to the skills selected by the manager. This process is much quicker than the previous one. However, Resumix does not entirely replace the human element. HR staff personnel still review resumes to make sure that referred applicants meet qualifications.

THE RESUME

This resume guide will help you prepare the best resume for this automated system. It contains detailed information on how to prepare and submit a properly formatted resume, and how to apply for job announcements. In order to apply for jobs, you must submit a resume. We will no longer accept SF171s and OF612s. For best results, use the DISA Resume Builder found at https://resume.disa.mil to prepare and send your resume. When you create a resume through the builder, it will format correctly and contain all necessary information you need to be considered for DISA jobs. You will also receive immediate notification of receipt. You may prepare and submit a different resume for each job announcement. Once you have submitted your resume, it will not be changed or overwritten and you may not update it for that specific announcement.

You may retrieve your saved resume and modify it for another job announcement; however, the last resume saved will overwrite your resume that is currently in your account on the Resume Builder. Only one resume can be saved at a time for each account in the Resume Builder. You may print or download a copy of the resume you submitted for each job announcement for your own records. Resumes may not be longer than five pages plus one additional supplemental page. A five-page resume is roughly equivalent to 21,000 characters in the online Resume Builder. If your online resume exceeds 21,000 characters, you will not be able to enter any additional text. You may go back and edit or delete information previously entered in order to keep your resume under the maximum 21,000 characters allowed. A character counter will keep track of the current number of characters used as you are typing your resume. Paper resumes that exceed five pages will be rejected and not considered for a job opportunity. Note that the additional supplemental page is not included in the five-page limit for resumes.

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION

Unless the job announcement specifically requests a document at the time of application, you are no longer required to submit supporting documentation such as a DD-214 or a SF-50 Notice of Personnel Action, or proof of your degree at the time you submit a resume. However, selected applicants must be prepared to provide supporting documentation before they enter employment with DISA.

THE JOB ANNOUNCEMENT AND QUICK APPLY

You must also apply for at least one DISA job announcement at the time you submit your resume, using the easy Quick Apply function on the Resume Builder. If you do not apply for an announcement, we will not process your resume. However, you may save your resume on the Resume Builder for an indefinite period of time until you decide to apply for a job announcement. Once you submit your resume, you will need only to apply for future job announcements using the Quick Apply function if you have no changes to your current resume on file. You will find detailed instructions on using this function in Section 4 of this guide.

CITIZENSHIP

Jobs posted on the DISA web site are open only to U. S. citizens. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you may wish to consider opportunities with another government agency. Information on these agencies may be found on the Office of Personnel Management web page at www.opm.gov.

DISA IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

Selection will be made without discrimination for any nonmerit reason such as race, religion, age, sex, national origin, marital status, nondisqualifying physical or mental disability, sexual orientation, or political affiliation. DISA provides reasonable accommodations to applicants with disabilities. If you need a reasonable accommodation for any part of the application and hiring process, please notify the Agency. The decision on granting reasonable accommodation will be on a case-by-case basis.

Be sure to read the instructions carefully before you start preparing your resume. We will not accept resumes that do not contain required information as discussed in this guide.
