The U.S. Army mission requires efficient operations of our installations. Geospatial information is critical to providing effective installation management, improving stewardship of natural resources, protecting the environment, and for supporting the training of Soldiers. The Army Installation Geospatial Information and Services (IGI&S) Program enhances mission systems and processes, allows for the visualization of installation's data and information across the Army enterprise and leads to the reduction of operational redundancy. Just as mission success in the battlespace relies on information superiority and agile combat support, installation management also requires disciplined creation, management and sharing of geospatial information.

The lead for Army IGI&S is the Office of the Chief of Staff for Installation Management (OACSIM) Operations Directorate, Operations Division (DAIM-ODO). DAIM-ODO provides IGI&S policy, guidance, coordination and technology oversight. They set program direction and priorities; develop, advocate for, and execute the IGI&S program budget; coordinate across installations and environment (I&E) functional domain with the war fighter community and with other services and the Office of the Secretary of Defense; and direct consolidation of geospatial data and information systems. Together with DAIM-OD, the Headquarters Installation Management Command (IMCOM) Systems Implementation and Fielding Division (SIFD), the HQ, IMCOM Plans Division, and the U.S. Army Environmental Command (USAEC) execute the Army IGI&S Program.

In addition to the GI&S initiatives managed by USAEC, the GIS team supports USAEC and the Army community by providing technical consultation, performing geospatial data analyses, reviewing contract language for GIS-related work, providing training to Project Managers on the principles of GIS, and creating professional cartographic products.
