  • Total Available: $17,427,872,643
  • Total Paid Out: $145,513,744
 Major Actions Taken to Date:
  • Department officials reviewed and approved State Fiscal Stabilization Fund applications for California, Illinois, and South Dakota, making $3.99 billion, $1.38 billion, and $85.4 million in funding available to these states respectively. The applications may be viewed on Ed.gov/Recovery.
  • The Department received and began the review process for Utah's State Fiscal Stabilization Fund application, and continued the review process for Maine.
  • Department officials met with Department of Interior to determine optimal approach for overseeing education-related ARRA programs with Native Americans and in US Territories designated high risk and/or subject to Consolidated Grant application (US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa).
  • The Department clarified guidance regarding use of State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Government Services monies for new construction.
  • The Department completed draft of ARRA Uses of Funds for inclusion in future guidance.
  • The Secretary of Education appeared at a Chicago school that demonstrates successful reform, and met with local leaders to discuss how ARRA funding should be used to achieve similar results.
 Major Planned Actions:
  • Review State Fiscal Stabilization Fund applications when received and provide state-specific feedback as appropriate to address outstanding questions and/or issues.
  • Begin posting ARRA Status Report detailing funding made available by state and program.
  • Review draft guidance to States regarding Interim Recipient Reporting Requirements.
  • Review input from Program Offices, Risk Management Services, and Office of the Inspector General for coordinated Technical Assistance outreach plan.
