 Financial Status:
  • Total Available: $11,784,055,447
  • Total Paid Out: $20,670,110
 Major Actions Taken to Date:
  • $39.6 million in 180 Impact Aid Construction grants and $69.2 million in 52 Homeless Children and Youth grants were made available April 10. Guidance and award information are available on Ed.gov.
  • The Department made Title I, IDEA, Vocational Rehab, and Independent Living ARRA funding available for South Carolina upon receipt of state certification.
  • The Department approved Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands for funding for Title I, IDEA, Vocational Rehab, and Independent Living.
  • Department personnel conducted webinar conference calls 4/7 and 4/8 with Governors' office staff to provide assistance with State Fiscal Stabilization Fund application details.
  • The Secretary of Education toured schools in Denver that demonstrate successful reform, and met with local school and government leaders to discuss how ARRA funding should be used to achieve similar results.
  • The Department received and began the review process for State Fiscal Stabilization Fund applications from South Dakota, California, Illinois, and Maine.
  • The Department provided detail regarding ARRA Education funding available to Native American communities to the Department of Interior to allow development of cross-agency web page summarizing Native American ARRA funding and opportunities.
 Major Planned Actions:
  • Review State Fiscal Stabilization Fund applications when received and provide state-specific feedback as appropriate to address outstanding questions and/or issues.
  • Begin assessing suggested ARRA Uses of Funds for inclusion in future guidance.
  • Outline coordinated Technical Assistance outreach plan based on input from Program Offices, Risk Management Services, and Office of the Inspector General.
  • Meet with Department of Interior to determine optimal approach for overseeing education-related ARRA programs with Native Americans and in US Territories designated high risk and/or subject to Consolidated Grant application (US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa).
