  • Total Available: $11,363,064,856

 Major Actions Taken to Date:
  • $11.4 billion in Recovery Act funding for Title I, IDEA Parts B and C, Vocational Rehabilitation, and Independent Living grants was made available to States on April 1. Fact Sheets and FAQs for these programs are posted on Ed.gov.
  • Applications and guidance were made available April 1 for States to apply for $32.6 billion in State Fiscal Stabilization Fund monies. Fact sheet, guidance, application, and letter to Governors are posted on Ed.gov.
  • Conference calls with State Superintendents, Governors' Offices, Local Superintendents, Mayors, and Press were conducted April 1 regarding Phase I funding.
  • Phase I funding briefings were conducted April 1 for Senate committee staff and House leadership staff; April 3 for Congressional aides.
  • An interactive ARRA Briefing for over 150 representatives from various education and community groups was held April 3 at Department of Education headquarters. A Webcast of the event is available on Ed.gov.
 Major Planned Actions:
  • Webinar conference calls will be conducted April 7 and 8 with Governors' office staff to provide assistance with State Fiscal Stabilization Fund application details.
  • Secretary of Education to tour Denver area schools April 7 and conduct ARRA discussion with local school leadership.
  • Review State Fiscal Stabilization Fund applications if/when received and provide state-specific feedback as appropriate to address outstanding questions and/or issues.
  • Submit Impact Aid and Education for Homeless Children grant guidance to OMB for clearance with plan to make funds available April 10.
  • Develop work plans and schedule for submitting upcoming guidance to OMB for clearance (e.g., Statewide Data System competitive grants)
  • Prepare for meeting with Department of Interior to determine optimal approach for overseeing education related ARRA programs in US Territories designated high risk and/or subject to Consolidated Grant application (i.e., US Virgin Islands, Guam, American Samoa, Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands) .
