 Major Actions Taken to Date:
  • Agency leadership conducted conference calls and meetings to provide Recovery Act guidance and technical assistance with key educational organizations including Governors' Liaisons and State Superintendents, Local Superintendents and Associations, and Chief State School Officers.
  • The Department presented its Recovery Act plans to state implementation "czars" at the White House Conference on ARRA Implementation.
  • Program Teams drafted detailed Terms & Conditions and application documents required for targeted end of March distribution of Phase I of Recovery Act funds totaling $44 billion.
 Major Planned Actions:
  • The Department will continue to provide guidance and technical assistance to the education community regarding Recovery Act implementation, including a meeting of the Secretary of Education with 35 city school superintendents on 3/16.
  • The March edition of the Department's monthly television broadcast, "Education News Parents Can Use," will address the Recovery Act with a program March 17 entitled "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act: Keeping Teachers Teaching and Students Learning." This magazine-style program will feature live discussions with state and local education administrators, higher education officials, policymakers and teachers.
  • The Agency will finalize application materials for State Stabilization Fund to allow availability for end of March target date.
