Hi Krista,

Thanks for the info on the LaRue Reading Skills Assessment. I couldn't find anything about it at the Minnesota Literacy Council web site, but I did find the following:

www.mcedservices.com/ESL/ReadSkil/TstIntro.pdf (gives info about the test)
www.mcedservices.com/ESL/ReadSkil/InstructA.pdf (Skills Assessment A)

Does the Skills Assessment A look like what you use, Krista? It looks like a very useful tool for preliterate and low-literate students--I like that it's not a traditional paper and pencil test.

Someone had asked about tests for low literate learners. (I lost the original message.) We recently started using the LaRue test, designed by Charles LaRue.  It's designed especially for learners with no education in their native language, and shows progress in that specific group of learners earlier than the CASAS tests do.  I believe he developed it through a grant, and that the tests and materials are somehow available through the Minnesota Literacy Council website.  I don't have the specific site here with me...Hope that helped a bit!
