Alisa Belzer and Hal Beder at Rutgers University Graduate School of
Education have announced that a two-day research-oriented conference on
defining and improving quality in adult basic and literacy education will
be held at Rutgers October 23-24, 2003.  Top national and international
researchers will present their work, and there will be many informal
opportunities to discuss the implications for research, policy and
practice.  Researchers, practitioners, and policy makers are urged to
attend.  A special graduate student rate will be available.  The conference
is co-sponsored by NCSALL and the Goodling Institute for Research in Family
Literacy at Penn State.  Conference details and registration materials will
