International Technical Scientific Demonstration Announced

From June 21-25, the Iraqi Ministry of Trade, in cooperation with Works Group for International Exhibitions, will host the “International Technical Scientific Demonstration” at the Baghdad International Fair Ground.

Multhanna Province Announces Investment Opportunities

To support their efforts to promote investment opportunities in Iraq, the Government of Iraq (GOI) and the Iraqi private sector created the national and provincial investment commissions.

Muthanna Investment Commission (MIC) is seeking companies interested in investing in southern Iraq. Located between Diwaniyah and Dhi Qar provinces, Muthanna's location provides good access to the Middle Euphrates River area and major Basra ports.

U.S. Firms Invited to Host Iraqi Engineer Fellows

The Iraqi Engineer Enhancement Program (IEEP) is a public-private partnership focused on increasing Iraqi professional and technical capacity while promoting infrastructure and workforce development. Engineers from ministries, university faculty, and small businesses are eligible to participate in 3-6 month fellowships in both the public and private sectors. Fellows have the opportunity to learn project and program management skills, understand western business culture, and gain modern technical and professional skills. Iraq Wins Bid to Host 2013 Gulf Cup

Iraqi Minister of Youth and Sports Jasem Mohammad Ja'afar recently announced that his country will host the 21st Gulf Cup in 2013, a premier international soccer competition. During this year's 19th Gulf Cup being held in Muscat, Oman, Gulf Soccer Federation leaders agreed that Basra would be the venue in two years time.

Minister Ja’afar told a press conference that preparations and planning are already well underway, and that “the government has allocated half a billion dollars for the construction of a state-of-the-art sports city in Basra. That includes a football stadium in addition to an Olympic-size swimming pool and indoor halls for basketball, handball and volleyball.”

This exciting opportunity should attract much commercial attention and investment to Basra. Read more

U.S. – Iraq Business Dialogue Closes Recruitment for New Membership

As of January 21, 2009, the U.S. Department of Commerce, International Trade Administration, closed the application period for applications to fill four vacant positions on the U.S. - Iraq Business Dialogue, a bilateral forum to facilitate private sector business growth in Iraq and to strengthen trade and investment ties between the United States and Iraq.
