Ryan story:

(Chicago, IL) Although former Illinois Governor George Ryan was sentenced to six and a half years in federal prison in 2006 for accepting cash, gifts, free vacations, and favors in exchange for government contracts while in office—he has yet to serve one day in jail. That could soon change as Ryan’s appeals have run their course, and U.S. District Judge Rebecca R. Pallmeyer set a date of November 7, 2007 for Ryan to report to prison along with co-defendant Larry Warner.

Ryan’s criminal trial began on September 28, 2005, with the Chicago RCFL providing expert digital forensics to the office of the United States Attorney, Patrick J. Fitzgerald. After more than five months of complex testimony, the jury convicted 72-year old Ryan of all 18 felony charges against him, including racketeering conspiracy, mail fraud, tax fraud and making false statements to the FBI.

The Chicago RCFL examined various types of electronic "media" including several computer hard drives and CD's.

Ryan’s attorneys will ask the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to extend his bond, and if that fails, they may ask the Supreme Court for help. However, the Supreme Court must take the case, which many legal experts view as a long shot.
