ALLAN POINT CABIN (AK), TONGASS NF - FS, AK

Allan Point Cabin is located on Halleck Island in upper Nakwasina Sound north of Sitka, Alaska. This large group cabin is equipped with wooden bunks, table, benches, oilstove for heat, and an outhouse. The second level of the cabin is an open sleeping loft with extended balconies to the front and back. Mattresses and cooking utensils are not provided. Cabin users should bring sleeping bags, pads, cookstove, cooking gear, and food. Bring #1 stove oil, 10 gallons for a 3-day stay. If flying, transport oil in an FAA-approved container or jerry can in a non-tip box. Wood is not provided for outdoor campfires; gather only dead and down wood. Accessible by floatplane or boat only. Boat operators should use charts to locate dangerous rock toward the east side of the bay on approach to cabin. A mooring buoy for boat anchorage is available to cabin users or general forest users, whichever comes first. Water source is stream 200' west of cabin. Boil or treat before using. All garbage and food must be packed out. Reservations are restricted to a maximum stay of 7 consecutive nights per party for any one reservation May 1 - September 30 and a maximum stay of 10 consecutive nights per party October 1 - April 30. There are NO discounts for Golden Age and Golden Passports for Alaska cabin rentals. The person holding the reservation must be 18 and must be a member of the party using the cabin.

Effective November 17, 2003, reservations for Alaska cabins will be subject to a new policy allowing only one change per reservation. A change in reservation is defined as a modification to the start or end date of the reservation. After one change has been made, if additional changes are desired, the customer must cancel the reservation and at a later time, re-book the new dates. This policy has been established to assure that reservations for cabins are fair and equitable for everyone.

Reservations may be made on the day of arrival or up to 180 days in advance. Treat or boil water before drinking. Pack out all food and garbage. Occasional poor weather can cause delayed arrivals or extended stays, and cabin users should be prepared for this. Camping within 200 feet of this cabin by anyone except the cabin users is prohibited.

Cabin is located on Halleck Island in upper Nakwasina Sound, 16 miles north of Sitka. Accessible from Sitka year round, weather permitting. Access by floatplane or boat, 16 miles north of Sitka. Boat operators should use charts to locate dangerous rock toward the east side of the bay on approach to cabin.
