- An ear infection.
- The gum disease gingivitis.
- A tooth that is impacted or abscessed.
- Mononucleosis.
- A sexually transmitted disease, including HIV.
- Tonsillitis.
- Sores in the mouth.
- Tuberculosis.
- Rheumatoid arthritis.
- Certain cancers, such as leukemia, Hodgkin's disease or non-Hodgkin lymphoma.
