Older Americans 2004: Key Indicators of Well-Being is the second in a series of reports produced by the Federal Interagency Forum on Aging-Related Statistics that describe the overall status of the U.S. population age 65 and over. - The Department of Transportation has
sponsored a number of research studies and held a national dialogue
on the transportation needs of the rapidly increasing aging population.
In conducting the national dialogue, DOT has engaged a broad range
of perspectives from transportation professionals, medical and social
service providers, public officials and agencies,and organizations
that deal with older people on a daily basis. The Department has recently
released a report "Safe
Mobility for a Maturing Society: Challenges and Opportunities (PDF)"

This report presents strategies for addressing the major transportation
