Facilities

The Bureau of Reclamation's Yuma Area Office operates and maintains the Yuma Desalting Plant (YDP), the Water Quality Improvement Center (WQIC), and a number of dams and well fields in the Yuma area.

Yuma Desalting Plant Yuma Desalting Plant
The Yuma Desalting Plant (YDP) was constructed under authority of the Colorado River Basin Salinity Control Act of 1974 to treat saline irrigation return flow and to include the treated (desalinated) water in water deliveries to Mexico under the Treaty of 1944 (Treaty).
Water Quality Improvement Center Water Quality Improvement Center
Research conducted at the WQIC aids in the identification of technologies and processes that will advance the state of water treatment technology, reduce the costs to treat impaired waters, and reduce the cost of operating the YDP.
Dams
The Yuma Area Office operates and maintains dams in the lower Colorado River region which serve to maintain a more steady supply of water despite erratic river flows.
Well Well Fields
The Yuma Area Office operates and maintains four well fields in the Yuma area that assist with groundwater recovery and drainage relief and help regulate flows in the the Colorado River.
