EARTH DAY RADIO: Ask Your Children (1.2MB, 30 sec, MP3)
Recorded February 2007
SOUND EFFECTS: schoolyard sounds
MOM: If you’re done with that soda, how about we toss out the can?
CHILD: Not here mom, let’s look for recycling on our way home.
MOM: OK. What are we looking for?
CHILD: A bin with a circle of arrows on it. We learned about it in school today. When you recycle a can, the aluminum gets melted down and makes more cans.
MOM: You’re my best teacher!
CHILD: Look mom… the circle of arrows! That’s a recycling bin!
CHILD: Happy Earth Day mom!

EFECTOS SONIDAS: niños jugando a la salida del colegio
MAMÁ: Hola cariño, ¿Qué tal la escuela?
NIÑO/A: Bien, mamá.
MAMÁ: Si terminaste esa soda, tiremos la lata.
NIÑO/A: ¡Ahí no!

Urban African American "This is Our Neighborhood. Recycle"
Shauntay Hinton, Miss USA 2002
- EPA RECYCLE RADIO: Facts
(3.7MB, 1.27 min, AVI)
Recorded December 20, 2002 EPA; short version (Note: clip starts after about 40 sec) | Transcript (PDF) (1 pg, 8K, About PDF)SHAUNTAY: Hi. This is Shauntay Hinton. Do you have 30 seconds to talk about how we can help our community? Did you know that the average person throws away more than four pounds of garbage a day? Thats a phone book every day. When I heard that, I said - Im gonna recycle everything I can. I mean, recycling one ton of paper saves about 20 trees. The energy saved from each recycled aluminum can will run a TV for three hours. I recycle and Im asking you to do the same.
ANNOUNCER: For more information on recycling, contact the US Environmental Protection Agency.
SHAUNTAY: This is our neighborhood. Recycle.
- EPA RECYCLE RADIO: The Earth/Recycle
Combined (3.4MB, 1.20 min, AVI)
Recorded December 20, 2002; long version Transcript (PDF) (1 pg, 10K, About PDF)SHAUNTAY: This is Shauntay Hinton, and I know. All day long people want something from you. Well, so do I. I think its important --I wouldnt ask if I didnt--so here it is: I am asking you to recycle.
Recycling happens all the time, but maybe you dont even realize it.
Release a song. They remix it. Produce a TV show. They repeat it. Make a can. You recycle it. Easy. If you have the strength to throw it away, you have the strength to recycle it. The Earth will thank you for it.
Read a paper? Recycle it. Use a bottle? Recycle it. Tight. Nearly everything you throw away could be recycled. The Earth will love you for it.
Its simple. Every ton of paper you recycle saves about 20 trees. Every glass jar you recycle saves enough energy to light a 100-watt bulb for four hours. And, every can you recycle saves enough power to run a computer for three hours.
I recycle, and Im asking you to recycle as well. The Earth will take care of you for it.
ANNOUNCER: For more information on recycling, contact the US Environmental Protection Agency.
SHAUNTAY: This is our neighborhood. Recycle.

Erik Estrada: "You Dump It, You Drink It" Campaign
Erik Estrada, who gained fame as a motorcycle cop in the 1970s television series CHiPs, is on the airwaves helping Hispanic Americans to recycle their used motor oil. Estrada worked with EPA to produce two public service announcements that are being aired on Spanish-language radio stations in some of the country's largest cities. The ads were recorded in both Spanish and in English. Listen to audio clips and read transcripts of Erik's used oil public service announcments in English and Spanish.
