Research Project: Determination of Structure-Property Relationships in Biological Macromolecules Using Biophysical Approaches

Location: Plant Polymer Research

Project Number: 3620-41000-108-03
Project Type: Nonfunded Cooperative Agreement

Start Date: Jun 16, 2005
End Date: May 01, 2010

Objective:
The objective of this cooperative research project is to study the properties of biological macromolecules (starches, proteins, etc) as a function of different experimental variables (temperature, solvent compositon, concentration of additives, etc) using laser based light scattering techniques.

Approach:
The collaboration is centered on characterizing the behavior of biological macromolecules in solution or suspension via light scattering experiments. Both static and dynamic light scattering experiments will be carried out. The ARS will provide samples of the materials to be studied and ISU will perform the experiments on an instrument provided by the ARS.
