In the Lab

A photo of two researchers at work at the Presidio Archaeology Lab.All are welcome to the Presidio Archaeology Lab. Created in 1999, the Lab is the centerpiece of the program, and the place where all research comes together. Here visitors mingle with experts who are revealing the hidden Presidio. The Lab is located at 230 Gorgas Avenue near Crissy Field.

In the space in and around the Lab, staff and volunteers unveil the secrets of the ceramics, bones, buttons, glassware, and other treasures unearthed in the field. These artifacts are carefully screened, cleaned, examined, and logged into the record.

In fact, much of the Presidio artifact collection is stored here, and exhibits exploring the park’s past are regularly on display. The Lab also includes an extensive library.

The Lab is currently open for visits by appointment. Please call (415) 561-ARCH or archaeology@presidiotrust.gov.
