Choices

A healthy lifestyle is made up of lots of small choices. Below, we offer a few ideas -- ways that you can improve your eating habits by choosing to do things just slightly differently.

IF YOU NORMALLY...

use whole or 2% milk

drink soda

eat dessert

have second helpings

eat big portions

eat a lot of white bread or pasta

use butter

eat fast food on the road

eat red meat

snack on chips and junk food

skip breakfast

fry your food

THEN TRY THIS INSTEAD!

use fat-free milk

drink diet soda, 100% juice, or water

eat fruit for dessert

put the food away as soon as you serve

eat off a smaller plate

go for a variety of whole-grain foods

try vegetable oils

chill-pack fruits and vegetables for car rides

extra-lean ground beef, turkey, or chicken

keep fruits and veggies in the fridge instead

try eating a healthy breakfast each day

bake, broil, grill or roast your food instead
