From the WMO "In Brief" webpage, "The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations. It is the UN system's authoritative voice on the state and behaviour of the Earth's atmosphere, its interaction with the oceans, the climate it produces and the resulting distribution of water resources."
Our Role:
The International Activities Office
(IAO) provides secretarial, administrative, and technical support
to the United States Representative with the
World Meteorological Organization.
Dr. John L. "Jack" Hayes, NOAA, National Weather Service Director, is the U.S. Representative
to the WMO and a member of the WMO’s Executive
Council. The IAO furthermore assists WMO with meetings and events covering interdisciplinary themes across the National Weather Service and coordinates the identification and participation of US experts in WMO technical commissions and US Government working groups.
