The San Bernardino National Forest hosts the US Forest Service Honor Guard, serving the entire National Forest System.  The Honor Guard represents the professionalism, dignity and honor of the US Forest Service. Typical Honor Guard events are Fire Prevention events, parades, award presentation ceremonies, and memorials.  Since inception the Honor Guard has represented the US Forest Service throughout the country and participates at the National Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial weekend each year in Emmitsburg Maryland.

History and role of the Honor Guard

The Concept of the US Forest Service "Honor Guard" first surfaced in 1998, and launched in 1999.  Several employees came together and designed the program and uniform from scratch.  When designing the uniform, emphasis was placed on representing the various aspects of who we are.  The uniform represents new and old, green represents the new, and the "Ike" jacket follows the old traditional uniform from days past. The campaign hat was chosen for its significance with the "friendly forest" and America's favorite bear, Smokey Bear. The Honor Guard represents the agency in several roles; memorial and funerals, parades & ceremonies and special events with fire prevention theme.
