Labs21
Centers of Excellence are independent sites run by organizations
that share the goals and objectives of the Labs21 program. The Centers
help implement and promote the goals of Labs21 by conducting research,
demonstration projects, and educational initiatives to foster a
new generation of laboratories. Each Center is well-positioned to
serve as a nationally-recognized technical resource in its given
area of expertise, facilitating world-class knowledge, information,
and solutions for advanced, sustainable laboratories.

Shared Commitments
Each Labs21 Center of Excellence will:
- Provide a national clearinghouse of information for a focused
area of lab design.
- Conduct research to identify the constraints or issues posed
by conventional lab facilities and investigate and implement solutions
to address these constraints.
- Sponsor opportunities for education and training in a given
area of lab design.
- Develop informational materials including technical tools, Web-based
resources, and case studies to document the potential for sustainable
strategies.
- Maintain an active collaboration and involvement with the Labs21
program, creating a platform for information development and exchange.
The Labs21 program will assist each Center in advancing its mission
by:
- Raising awareness through promotion and recognition in Labs21
outreach materials.
- Providing referrals for technical support and information, and
encouraging the laboratory community to apply the findings of
the Centers.
- Integrating the work of each Center into the Labs21 program.
This may include: providing meeting opportunities at the annual
Labs21 conference; participating in the demonstration and testing
of proposed solutions; and incorporating results, studies, and
tools into Labs21 resources and materials.
