Newsletter Focuses on Affordable Housing for Rural America
Community Developments, published by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, focuses on rural America and the role of banks in strengthening rural communities. "A Place to Call Home: Financing Housing in Rural America" examines the role that banks, CDOs, state and federal agencies, and others can play to bring the benefits of affordable housing to more low- and moderate-income rural Americans.

Updated Guide to Housing Funds for Rural Areas
The Housing Assistance Council has released an updated publication called "A Guide to Federal Housing and Community Development Programs for Small Towns and Rural Areas" that includes more than 80 federal funding programs ranging from the recent New Markets Tax Credit to many longstanding funding sources.

Article Looks at the Role of Self-Sufficiency in Rebuilding Appalachian Communities
The National Housing Institute published an article in Shelterforce (Issue #121) that examines the need for Appalachian communities to guide their own destinies. "Relying On Ourselves, the Spirit of Rural Community Development" was written by Nelda K. Pearson, Executive Director of Bean and Rice CDC in Radford, Virginia.
