Mississippi River Trail Grand Opening

The grand opening of the Minnesota section of the Mississippi River Trail and the newly remodeled City House will take place on June 6, 2009. After the celebration the National Park Service will host a 9-mile Bike to a Ranger ride along the Mississippi River.

Television Personality Swaps Jobs with National Park Service Ranger

Local TV station KARE-11 personality, Rena Sarigianopoulos, swapped jobs with National Park Service Ranger Amy Meissner. Rena experienced a day as a national park ranger at the Mississippi River Visitor Center while Amy found out what it was like to be a television reporter.

Hydrokinetic Energy Experiment at Hastings

In the first of its kind installation in the U.S., the City of Hastings, working with Hydro Green Energy has been licensed to place two hydroturbines in the Mississippi River. The turbines are to be installed downstream from the existing hydropower plant at Lock and Dam #2.
