2009 Calendar for Events Helping Homeless Veterans

Provides the 2009 calendar for Stand Down events scheduled across the United States. Stand Downs are typically one to three day events providing services to homeless Veterans such as food, shelter, clothing, health screenings, VA and Social Security benefits counseling, and referrals to a variety of other necessary services, such as housing, employment and substance abuse treatment.

All Faith Consortium (AFC) Programs for Homeless Veterans

Provides homeless Veterans with skill sets for entry into a structured training program supported by a career services component and permanent housing placement.

American Heroes Return

Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) - Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program

Provides rental assistance under a supportive housing program for homeless Veterans. This program combines Housing Choice Voucher rental assistance for homeless Veterans with case management and clinical services provided by VA at its medical centers and in the community.

Department of Housing & Urban Development Veteran Resource Center (HUDVET)

Promotes knowledge of and participation in the wide variety of HUD homeless assistance programs and services for Veterans and other individuals who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Locate HUDVET in your state.

PATH - Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness

A SAMHSA grant program that funds the 50 States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and four U.S. Territories to support service delivery to individuals with serious mental illnesses, as well as individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders, who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless.

Stand Down

Faith*Hope*Love*Charity, Inc., a non-profit organization that provides support for homeless Veterans through the Stand Down House, a transitional living facility that helps homeless Veterans with addictions, mental and physical illnesses, and other issues. Veteran placement is supported by the Health Care for Homeless Veterans and the Grant and Per Diem Programs through the VA Medical Center. There is also a three-quarter house, which provides an alternative living space for Veterans who are ready for independent living.

VA Announces $36 Million in Grants for Homeless Programs

Homeless Veterans in 35 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico will get more assistance, through VA grants providing $36.7 million to community groups to create 1,526 beds for homeless Veterans this year.
