  • New Photovoltaic Power Systems To Save Taxpayers Thousands In Energy Costs
  • 4/30/2009: The DOT joined Hoku Solar, a subsidiary of Hoku Scientific, in dedicating a solar, photovoltaic power system at Lihu‘e Airport today. This PV system is one of seven DOT facilities across the state that comprise the DOT’s Photovoltaic Energy Systems Project. The project exemplifies the state’s commitment to lead by example in developing renewable energy strategies that also focus on energy savings.
  • $3.1 Million In Federal Funds Secured For Kawaihae Harbor Improvements
  • 4/24/2009: The state DOT will be the beneficiary of $3.1 million in federal funds, through the Hawaii Port Infrastructure Expansion Program, for port improvements at Kawaihae Harbor. This infrastructure project will be the first of many to be conducted under partnership between the federal Maritime Administration and the state Harbors Division.
  • Commercial Drivers License Holders Warned Of Heightened Risk Of Identity Theft
  • 4/7/2009: The state DOT and the Attorney General are strongly encouraging approximately 1,892 individuals who hold a commercial drivers license (CDL) to take preventative measures to guard themselves against potential identify theft. The warning follows a March 18, 2009 incident, in which a laptop from the DOT’s Motor Vehicle Safety Office was reported missing.
  • H-1 Lane Closures For Pearl City Viaduct Advanced Repairs
  • 4/1/2009: Road crews will begin deck replacement repair work beginning Monday, April 6, on the Pearl City Viaduct, H-1 Freeway eastbound. Work will be scheduled on Monday nights through Friday mornings from 7 p.m. to 4 a.m., nightly.
  • Phase I Of Queen Kaahumanu Highway Widening Project Reaches Completion
  • 3/31/2009: Officials from the state Department of Transportation (DOT) were joined by Senator J. Kalani English, Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company President William Wilson, and Representative Cindy Evans today, for the dedication of Phase I of the Queen Kaahumanu Highway Widening project.
