An Unexpected Inauguration that Changed the Nation

As president, Theodore Roosevelt created protections for ordinary citizens, began regulation of big business, and made the US a major force in international affairs. Yet one of the most important presidencies in America's history nearly didn't happen. See the place where a brief, emotional, and improvised ceremony in Buffalo, NY brought TR into office, and forever altered the nation.

Park Site Closed for Renovations

The Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural National Historic Site is currently closed for renovations. In addition to physical upgrades to the Inaugural Site, we are also developing exciting new exhibits and interpretation to tell the story of Theodore Roosevelt's 1901 inauguration in exciting and engaging new ways.

The TR Inaugural Site anticipates a grand re-opening in spring 2009. Please check back for details.

More information is available on planned improvements to the TR Inaugural Site.

Images of renovations. Keep track of our ongoing work.

The Site does continue to offer outreach programs, and several special events are planned for the closure period.

We expect to once again be able to issue passes as of May 31, 2009, 12:00 noon - 5:00 pm daily.
