The 2009 Symposium is focused on the theme: "Command and Control and Battle Management Implications of Maritime Integrated Air and Missile Defense (Maritime IAMD)." In today’s complex integrated air and missile defense operational environment, the importance of effective command and control and battle management capabilities is steadily increasing. The need for real-time management of the integration, control, and deconfliction of new force-level warfighting forces, fires, and capabilities, against such increasingly difficult threats as hybrid ballistic missiles and sophisticated cruise missiles continues to grow. As advanced weapons continue to proliferate, it is increasingly important our joint forces in general, and the U.S. Navy maritime forces in particular, develop and field the necessary command and control and battle management capabilities to meet and deal with the threat.
