Many refuges also have hiking, water or auto trails that interpret historic properties along their routes, allowing visitors to maximize their outdoor recreational experiences. There are 15 National Historic Trails in the National Trail System, and seven of them have National Wildlife Refuges or National Fish Hatcheries along them or near them.
