Training in Molecular Toxicology and Environmental Disease The Training Program is a coordinated effort between the University of Texas, Austin (College of Pharmacy) and the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center Science Park in Smithville which focuses on the mechanisms of organ-specific toxicity of xenobiotics. The program is coordinated through the interinstitutional Center for Molecular and Cellular Toxicology. Research programs of the training faculty include: mechanistic cardiovascular toxicology; mechanisms of experimental and human carcinogenesis; molecular mechanisms of multi-stage skin carcinogenesis; role of inflammation in chemical carcinogenesis; chemical-DNA site specific interactions; free radical biochemistry and molecular mechanisms of apoptosis; metabolism, polyphenol-induced nephrocarcinogenicity and prostaglandin mediated cytoprotection; molecular interactions of carcinogens with chromatin; molecular mechanisms of quinone-mediated nephrotoxicity, neurotoxicity, and hematotoxicity; pesticide induced alterations in dopaminergic function and the role of transporters in Parkinson’s Disease; male reproductive toxicology and germ cell apoptosis; role of genetic alterations in tumor development.
