Internship Program

The U.S. Commercial Service Hong Kong's (CSHK) work-study intern program provides college or university juniors, seniors, and graduate students of economics, business administration and related fields with "hands-on" experience working in the commercial section of the U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong. The program is voluntary and uncompensated.  We cannot assist with airfare, housing or other expenses, or with visas. Internships are considered to be adjunct to an applicant's education; therefore, internships are open to currently enrolled students who are taking at least one-half of a full-time academic workload (includes high school, trade school, technical or vocational institution), and who will be returning to complete their education immediately upon termination of their internship.  We generally require 20 hours per week minimum and a three-month commitment for an internship position.

U.S. Commercial Service Hong Kong is charged with helping U.S. firms export their goods and services to Hong Kong and Macau. To accomplish this mission, we offer a variety of resources and services to assist U.S. companies entering the market.

The types of work which an intern might do are quite varied and may include:

  • Undertaking research for, and writing, major market opportunity reports, published online and maintained by the Department of Commerce.
  • Providing assistance to Commercial Officers and Commercial Specialists conducting Department of Commerce services and participating in meetings, conferences, and/or other trade-related activities.
  • Drafting and/or editing English language correspondence.
  • Conducting business analysis.
  • Assisting with trade conferences.
