Our Mission in the Indian Health Service is to raise the physical, mental, social, and spiritual health of American Indians and Alaska Natives to the highest level.
Our Goal is to assure that comprehensive, culturally acceptable personal and public health services are available and accessible to American Indian and Alaska Native people.
Our Foundation is to uphold the Federal Government's obligation to promote healthy American Indian and Alaska Native people, communities, and cultures and to honor and protect the inherent sovereign rights of Tribes.
The Mobile Women's Health Unit Mission
Due to the rural nature of the Aberdeen Service area, there is often great distance between patients and health care facilities. Transportation barriers among our people can make obtaining adequate health care and especially preventive care very difficult. Through the Mobile Women's Health Unit, the Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service plans to reach women where they live, offering potentially life saving preventive screening opportunities.
