Major Transportation Education Pipeline Initiatives

DWIGHT DAVID EISENHOWER TRANSPORTATION FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM

A DOT-wide program designed to attract qualified students to the field of transportation education and research, and advance transportation workforce development. The DDETFP is intended to help upgrade the scope of knowledge of the entire transportation community in the United States and encompasses all modes of transportation.

UNIVERSITY TRANSPORTATION CENTERS PROGRAM

A program that advances U.S. transportation-related technology and expertise through the mechanisms of education, research, and technology transfer at university-based centers of excellence.

SUMMER TRANSPORTATION INTERN PROGRAM FOR DIVERSE GROUPS

The Summer Transportation Intern Program or Diverse Groups is a 10-week, college-level summer program for undergraduate, graduate, and law students that involves research as well as hands-on career experiences at the USDOT. http://www.fhwa.dot.gov/education/stipdg.htm

NATIONAL SUMMER TRANSPORTATION INSTITUTES FOR SECONDARY STUDENTS

The National Summer Transportation Institutes for Secondary Students is a 4-6 week awareness program at 40 college campuses to motivate and to introduce secondary students to professions in the field of transportation. http://nrc.scsu.edu/

GARRETT A. MORGAN TRANSPORTATION AND TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION PROGRAM

Authorized in SAFETEA-LU, the Garrett A. Morgan Transportation and Technology Education Program's purpose is to improve the preparation of students, particularly women and minorities, in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through curriculum development and other transportation-related activities. This program was formerly known as the Garrett A. Morgan Transpiration and Technology Futures Program (GAMTTFP) initiated in 1998, by the Secretary of Transportation to prepare the workforce for the 21st century by reaching 2 million youth. The GAMTTFP provided a model to increase transportation awareness by emphasizing the relationship between math, science, and technology to the field of transportation.
