Interior Library Services

Reference Services

Librarians are available to assist DOI employees with general and legal research. Contact the Reference Desk with questions or requests via telephone, mail, fax, or send e-mail. Field personnel are welcome to submit research requests or call with their research queries.

Use a research request form (available in pdf formatPDF Format) or use your own format, but be sure to include the necessary information as shown on the form.

DOI employees may also contact a reference librarian to request searches of Westlaw and LEXIS-NEXIS databases.

Access to databases and the Internet

Several on-site computers with Internet connections are available to patrons. These computers may be used to access the World Wide Web and a variety of fee-based online databases. Patrons may also use CD-ROMs that are included in the Library's collections. On-site access is provided to CD-ROMs on a wide range of topics including geology, geography, mining, wildlife and oil and gas.

Access to the full texts of journal articles are provided on-site through the Academic OneFile database, HeinOnline, the JSTOR Collections, the Science and Technology Collection, EBSCO Online, and ScienceDirect Web Editions. OneFile and EBSCO Online also provide indexing for many more journal titles than are available as full text.

Interlibrary Loan

The Library provides an Interlibrary Loan service to DOI headquarters employees to obtain materials unavailable in our collections. DOI field employees and Federal libraries may also use the service to obtain materials from our collections. Procedures and request forms are available at Interlibrary Loan Service.

Photocopying

The Library provides photocopiers and microfilm and microfiche reader-printers. No fees are collected for copies made on the premises. The general public is asked to contribute paper to replace copies made and should consult a reference librarian before making copies. Copyright restrictions apply to all photocopies.
