How we handle the information we gather when you visit our website:

Unless you choose to provide additional information to us by setting up an account and
ordering a publication, we will collect no personal information about you other than the
information (below), which is automatically collected and stored when you visit our site

We collect only the following information about you:
the name of the domain from which you access the Internet
(i.e., erols.com if you are connecting from an Erols account,
or Harvard.edu if you are connecting from Harvard University's domain);
the date and time of your visit;
the pages you visit on gsa.gov; and
the Internet address of the website you came from if it linked you directly to gsa.gov.
If your browser accepts cookies, we may use a session cookie to decide if you are
a repeat or a new visitor. We also use session cookies so we can learn how many
different visitors come to www.gsa.gov. We use this information for statistical
purposes and to help us make our site more useful to you. When we look at this data,
it is always presented in an aggregate form. We do not track or look at an individual's

If you establish an account or send us personal information:
When you send us personal information (e.g., by setting up an account or
by requesting to receive a publication, or by an email message containing a
question or comment), we use this information to respond to your request. We
may forward your e-mail to the government employee or government contractor
who can best answer your question. GSA or government contractors acting on our
behalf may contact you via e-mail or phone to provide shipment status of orders,
update your account or resolve issues.
From time to time, we use or release to GSA contractors our customer account
information (i.e., names, postal addresses, email and telephone information) to
provide periodic updates on new offerings, upcoming events, to conduct surveys on
the quality of services provided by GSA, or for new, unanticipated uses not previously
disclosed. This information is also subject to Freedom of Information Act requests.
If you do not want us to use or share your account information for other than
the purpose it was provided, please let us know through your privacy preferences on
the account registration page.
We want to make it clear that we will not obtain personally identifying
information about you when you visit our site, unless you choose to provide that
information to us. We do release personally identifying information for authorized
law enforcement investigations, or as otherwise required by law, or as allowed by your
opt-in preference.
Security:
For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to
all users, GSA webservers use industry-standard methods to monitor network traffic
to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information, or otherwise cause
damage. Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on GSA servers
are strictly prohibited and may be punishable by law, including the Computer Fraud and
Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.
