American Community Survey (ACS)
The American Community Survey is a new nationwide survey designed to provide communities a fresh look at how they are changing. It will replace the long form in future censuses and is a critical element in the Census Bureau's reengineered 2010 census plan.

Special Census
A special census is a basic enumeration of population, housing units, and group quarters conducted by the Census Bureau at the request of a governmental unit. When local officials believe there has been a significant population change in their community or due to annexation, a special census may be in order. A certified official population increase resulting from the special census may produce an increase in state revenue sharing or other benefits.
