Outbreak Support
IEIP sites act as resources for outbreak investigation and provide assistance both in country and in the region.
Objectives of this activity are:
- To serve as a country and regional resource in investigating and controlling outbreaks of emerging infectious diseases
- To provide diagnostic and epidemiologic support as needed
- To make available critical supplies and facilities to ensure rapid, comprehensive response.
IEIP staff have assisted or led several outbreak investigations including SARS, avian influenza, cholera, and meningococcal meningitis.
