- Grants For Healthy Aging: Requests For Applications: RFA #HA-2009
The National Association of Chronic Disease Directors (NACDD), with
support from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),
announces the availability of funds for state health departments to
improve the health of older adults through state-level public health
action. Funded projects will be cross-cutting in nature and will draw
upon the respective strengths, expertise, and resources of multiple public
health programs and the aging services network. Projects will be funded
to develop state health department readiness for action around healthy
aging.

The Academy for Educational Development (AED) announces the release of the National Asthma Control Initiative Enhanced Application Demonstration Projects Request for Proposals (RFP). AED is a nonprofit organization supporting the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) by managing the implementation of these demonstration projects. The purpose of this procurement is to support demonstration projects that will take on efforts to address the six key messages of the Guidelines Implementation Panel (GIP) Report. The Report outlines recommendations and strategies to enhance the utilization of Expert Panel Report 3 (EPR-3): Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Management of Asthma. The National Asthma Education and Prevention Program (NAEPP), coordinated by the NHLBI, has created the National Asthma Control Initiative (NACI) to put the GIP recommendations in Motion. Interested organizations or groups will use a variety of evidence-based or best practice approaches to take on efforts to address the six key messages of the Guidelines Implementation (GIP) Report.
Up to 20 demonstration projects will be awarded through subcontracts of up to $100,000 for a two-year period. AED and NHLBI expect to announce the awards on October 1, 2009.

Proposals must be submitted via email no later than 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on June 15, 2009.

The purpose of this NIH sponsored research is to: (1) to determine the effects of age-related changes or aging mechanisms on specific aspects of HIV/AIDS (risk, etiology, progression, diagnosis, symptoms, response to treatment, etc); (2) to determine age-related differences in these specific aspects of HIV/AIDS and/or the factors responsible for them; (3) to obtain currently missing information about these specific aspects of HIV/AIDS in very old people or older people with comorbidities; and (4) to develop or test new methods or technologies relevant to 1-3 above .
