People are exposed to chemicals every day. Chemicals are used in scientific experiments and industrial facilities, but also in schools, grocery stores, dry cleaners and homes. Chemicals are also found in thousands of consumer products including children's toys. The EPA researches, monitors and makes available a wide range of information on chemicals. Toxicity levels, exposure rates, release data and disposal information are all gathered and disseminated through resources like the IRIS database and the Toxics Release Inventory. In addition to providing chemical information, EPA works with industry to implement chemical uses that will diminish the damage caused to the environment and human life and to establish protocols for spills and other accidents.
