Although many waste generators treat and dispose of the waste they produce, some facilities do transport their waste for treatment and disposal elsewhere. The transportation of waste is regulated by the EPA. Waste transporters are issued with EPA identification numbers and are subject to the Agency's Hazardous Waste Manifest System which tracks hazardous waste from the time it leaves the generator facility until it reaches the facility where it will be treated or disposed of. The manifest contains
information on the type and quantity of the waste being transported, instructions for handling the waste, and signature lines for all parties involved in the disposal process.
