Air pollution contributes to global climate change and the destruction of the ozone layer. Air pollution also knows no boundaries. It can be transported from one country to another around the world. The Clean Air Act promotes international agreements and cooperative research to protect the stratosphere from pollution. The CAA also encourages the support of developing countries in implementing clean air initiatives. Through implementation of the Montreal Protocol and other international accords, the United States is participating in the global effort to reduce air pollution and protect public health and the environment.
