In partnership with the state and local governments in the border regions of the United States, EPA has forged working relationships with Canada and Mexico in order protect, improve, and conserve the ecosystems shared by all three countries. In the United States-Mexico Border XXI Program, the United States and Mexico's federal entities work cooperatively toward sustainable development, protection of human health and the environment, and proper management of natural resources in both countries. The U.S. has similarly joined with Environment Canada to pursue common environmental goals such as the Binational Toxics Strategy and the Great Lakes Management Plan.
