As part of its regulation of pesticides, the EPA conducts programs that monitor the ongoing effect of pesticides on human health and the environment. These programs include issuing harmonized guidelines for use in the testing of pesticides and toxic substances; using mathematical models to predict pesticide concentrations in food, water, residential and occupational environments and gathering pesticide tolerance information into a single database that may be consulted by local authorities and pesticide manufacturers. The Agency also regularly re-examines its policies and re-evaluates the tolerance levels set when pesticides are initially approved.
