EPA's responses to chemical accidents and other toxic events are coordinated with other federal agents as well as local authorities and stakeholders. The Agency's Chemical Emergency Preparedness and Prevention Program (CEPPO) is responsible for the overall coordination of emergency management for the EPA. In that capacity, CEPPO provides the Emergency Coordinator, Deputy Emergency Coordinator, and Emergency Operations Center for the Agency. Additionally, CEPPO provides leadership for the National Incident Coordination Team. In all of its cooperative actions, EPA recognizes the need for flexibility by allowing the best qualified personnel to lead the response.
