Agriculture in the United States produces an abundance of food and other goods that are consumed all over the world. However, when improperly managed, chemicals used in agriculture, such as fertilizers and pesticides, can pose risks to the environment. EPA specifies management measures and practices to protect waters from agricultural sources of non-point pollution. Numerous government programs are available to help people design and pay for new management approaches. The EPA also works with other state and federal authorities to provide cost-share, technical assistance, and economic incentives to implement pollution management practices.
