The EPA works with state and federal agencies to regulate the import and export of hazardous waste, pesticides and other dangerous substances. The Agency's role is to ensure that international trade agreements, projects and issues are negotiated and implemented to protect domestic interests and environmental standards. The goal of the EPA's cooperation in these international accords is to maintain a high level of health and environmental protection and to minimize trade problems that are costly to the United States, both financially and politically.
