The EPA advocates, supports and participates in the development and implementation of new technologies in a number of ways. EPA labs conduct cutting edge research to develop new sampling and modeling methods and remedial technologies. The Agency's grants division offers funding and scholarships for scientific research that benefits the environment. Voluntary programs such as Energy Star encourage manufacturers and consumers to conserve energy through the manufacture and use of energy-efficient products. Other EPA technology incentives include the use of innovative technologies to reduce pollution at its source and others to treat hazardous waste at superfund sites.
